Highlights

  • Manta mating season begins the end of December and ends the beginning of March. Devil Fish City and German Channel are on our schedule. Mantas galore, we hope!!!
  • Plenty of Grey Reef Sharks at Blue Corner. So expect more sharks, more action, and some interesting encounters.
  • By special arrangement, we will do a dusk dive at Mandarin Fish Lake. For most, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see mandarin fish mating.
  • Coral spawning is known to happen four times a year. The coral spawning is linked to the lunar cycle. Spawning periods are end of May, end of August, mid September and mid February. We have timed our trip just right!
  • Huge schools of Moorish Idols and Unicorn Fish get together in spawning aggregations through February and March.
  • Several World War II wrecks our on the schedule. Be prepared for the best of wreck diving in Palau.
  • A Nautilus dive is a rare and unique opportunity to see and film the deep water nautilus. This is another special arrangement dive. We will of course be in shallow water to photograph them.
  • For the ultimate glimpse into the dolphins' world, a Dolphin Scuba Dive is offered at the "Dolphins Pacific", the world's largest marine mammal interaction, educational and research facility.
  • Jellyfish Lake is not on scuba. It's a snorkeling experience as good as it gets!

Q & A

What is the water temperature?
The water temperature averages between 82° to 85°F year-round.

What kind of wetsuit do I need?
While a thin 1/8" may get you by, if you tend to chill, we recommend no less than a 3mm full wetsuit. We always suggest you pack a polartec vest and hood, just in case… If you plan on purchasing a new suit, we recommend the new Xcel 5/4/3 suit which will keep you warm in tropical locations where the water may be in the high 70s.

What is the vis?
The visibility ranges from 60 to 100 feet. On the outer reefs and walls, visibility usually exceeds 100 feet.

When is the rainy season?
The wet season is between May and September. February to April is considered the dry season, but typically it rains about one day each week.

Where is the nearest recompression chamber?
Palau has a new two-man recompression chamber in Koror. We will limit our dives to 100 feet. Safe diving procedures will be discussed at all dive briefings. We will have no need to use the recompression chamber.

Is diving insurance required?
Yes.
